BMW tire maintenance begins with a visual inspection of all four tires at least once a week. That means looking at them when you get gas or after your work week is over in Hollywood. Just make sure the tires don’t look deflated or damaged. 

BMW Tire PSI Guide Once Per Month

Every month, take a closer look at your tires with regular BMW tire maintenance. Check the tire air pressure with a tire pressure gauge. A tire pressure gauge only costs a couple of dollars, and they’re widely available at auto stores. Plus, one of them fits easily into your glove box.

Checking your BMW tire pressure takes just a few minutes. First, look for your vehicle’s recommended PSI on the panel of the driver’s side door. If you can’t find it there, look at the owner’s manual. 

Follow these steps to check your BMW tire pressure:

1. Make sure the tires are cold. If you just drove, let the tires cool down for four hours before checking the tire pressure.
2. Unscrew the tire valve cover.
3. Keep the tire valve cover in a safe place so you don’t lose it.
4. Insert the end of the tire pressure gauge onto the valve.
5. Look at the reading to see the tire pressure.
6. If the reading is low, add more air to your BMW tire, gradually in short bursts, until the tire pressure is correct.

BMW Tire PSI Guide: Recommended Inflation

Take a look at the BMW tire pressure numbers here for the base trims of each model. These are listed in pounds per square inch (PSI). In general, BMW tires should be at 32 PSI, but this figure varies by model.

• BMW 1 Series: 41 PSI front, 41 PSI rear
• BMW 2 Series: 33 PSI front, 36 PSI rear
• BMW 3 Series: 35 PSI front, 38 PSI rear
• BMW 4 Series: 35 PSI front, 39 PSI rear
• BMW 5 Series: 33 PSI front, 33 PSI rear
• BMW 6 Series: 38 PSI front, 38 PSI rear
• BMW 7 Series: 39 PSI front, 46 PSI rear

• BMW X1: 35 PSI front, 42 PSI rear

Checking for tire tread wear is another thing you need to look for when performing regular BMW tire maintenance.

How to Check BMW Tire Tread With a Penny

A ruler is the most accurate way to measure tire tread depth. However, a penny will suffice when you’re out and about in Pembroke Pines or anywhere. 

Follow these steps to check the tread depth on your tires with a penny:

1. Insert the penny head-first into a tire tread groove that shows the most wear.
2. Check if Lincoln’s head is covered and no longer visible between the grooves.
3. If you can see the entirety of Lincoln’s head, your tire treads are 2/3 inches deep or less, replace your tires ASAP.

How to Check BMW Tire Tread Wear in Other Ways

These methods are more accurate but equally as effective as a penny. 

• Tread Depth Gauge: You can purchase a tread depth gauge from any Pembroke Pines-area auto parts store. Insert the probe into the shallowest tread groove, then press the top bar of the gauge flat against the tire to see the tread wear rating. 

• Tread Wear Bars: Most tires have tread wear indicator bars built into them. If the colored bars are flush with the surrounding tire ribs, this means that the tread depth has reached 2/32 of an inch.
